The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), the leading technical society for the motion imaging industry, wins the "Development and Standardization of File Formats for Video and Audio" Emmy Award at 60th Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards. SMPTE was chosen for this prestigious honor specifically for their work in the development of the MXF and GXF file formats. The Awards were presented at the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
MXF was originally developed by the Professional MPEG Forum prior to the documentation being handed over to the SMPTE for standardisation. The Pro-MPEG organisation worked for several years collating and assimilating the requirements of several organisations and companies to establish the MXF format specification.
